Wow, 10 already!

Here’s one with great timing ;)

Valentine’s day is tomorrow and (hopefully) many of you ladies out there will be receiving a gorgeous bouquet of flowers!!

So, here is a helpful  way to make them last even longer! (Using these hints my cut flowers usually last one week to ten days, sometimes longer!)

Of course you know to put them in water right away, but what steps might you be missing?

First, cut the bottom of each stem at least 1 inch up at an angle.  Sharp scissors work best for this.  Next, and very important, cut off (don’t rip!) all the leaves that will be below the water level.  This will keep the water cleaner and therefore the flowers will stay fresh longer.  If the leaves stay in the water, they can rot and contaminate the water, and that will harm your flowers. Also, if you have roses, remove the outermost petals to reveal the freshest part of the flower.  Lastly, just keep them near sunlight, and check the water level daily.

Now you can sit back and enjoy the beauty and wonderful scent of your bouquet!

{Sorry for no step by step pictures, let’s hope I can add some after tomorrow ;)}
